Hyderabad: Terming the arrests of some of the villagers in Utkoor mandal in Mahbubnagar district for alleged role in the recent communal clash during Ganesh procession as ‘highhandedness’ of police, the BJP demanded their immediately release. A delegation led by BJP Telangana unit president Dr K Laxman on Saturday submitted a memorandum to DGP Anurag Sharma. They demanded action against the police personnel, who resorted to ‘highhandedness’.

They demanded immediate withdrawal of ban order under Section 144 Cr PC which was imposed after a clash between two communities on the day of Ganesh immersion.

The behaviour of police was highly objectionable and district SP would not meet anybody nor would he allow the public representatives to go to the village to assess the situation even after the assurance that they would work with the police to bring normalcy, the BJP said in the memorandum.

It may be mentioned here that during Ganesh procession on the previous Sunday, two communities clashed and hurled stones, after one of the religious place was allegedly desecrated. To control the situation, section 144 was imposed and some of the injured were shifted to local hospital. The SP of Mahbubnagar Kamaleshwar Singanavar said that about 20 miscreants have been arrested.
