Hyderabad: Amidst protests and agitations by the Muslim organisations against the atrocities on Rohingyas in Myanmar, noted Islamic scholar and Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) head Syed Arshad Madani said that his group would approach Supreme Court over the issue.

He said that there was precedence that foreign refugees were given a relief by the virtue of Supreme Court in the past. He said, ``Central government is claiming that 40,000 Rohingyas are in India and it wanted to deport them. We will approach the Supreme Court against the decision of the government and seeking asylum for the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds.”

Arshad Madani said that as per the United Nations charter for refugees, they cannot be deported until the peace is not restored in their home country and decision of GOI would go against it. He opposed the idea of protest and agitation on the streets for Rohingyas and said that it would be a futile exercise. ``Anything fruitful for the Rohingya crisis can only be done by the government levels or by the global leaders”, he pointed out.

Arshad Madani was in Hyderabad recently and interacted with media over various developments on the front of personal law, Supreme Court and Triple Talaq among other issues. He said that Muslims in India need to be abide by the ruling of Supreme Court about Triple Talaq. However, this ruling will not have any adverse effect on a true Muslim. He said that constitution guarantees the protection of religious freedom in India.
