Hyderabad: As the State Transport department started the 'OTP' (one-time password) system for all RTA transactions, the technical glitches in the server resulted in hardships to the motorists.

The motorists faced inconvenience consecutively for two days as the server was down on Friday and Saturday

The OTP system was good for individual vehicles but the motorists faced problems while transacting with transport vehicles. According to sources, the motorists faced inconvenience consecutively for two days as the server was down on Friday and Saturday. Many of them had to leave without getting their work done because of non-availability of the server, sources added.

The department, to break the nexus between the brokers and some of the corrupt officials, had started the OTP system where the owner of the vehicle would be sent a one-time password to his mobile number and the transaction would begin only when the OTP is entered.

The nexus between the brokers and some officials came to light in a criminal case where a person from Rajasthan landed in Hyderabad to lodge a complaint of repeatedly receiving messages pertaining to traffic violations.

A businessman from Kota, Rajasthan got hundreds of messages about traffic violations from the RTA offices in Hyderabad. Hitesh (name changed), the businessman first ignored the messages thinking that it was a technical issue.

However, to his shock, he was later on receiving 600 messages per day including intimating him about the charge sheet in court.

On receiving the complaint, the police officials in the city approached the RTA authorities to know about the challan issue. The Transport Department officials identified around 5,000 vehicles, which were registered on one single mobile number.
The motorists however wanted the State government to give relaxation to the transport vehicles. Auto and Motors Welfare Association general secretary M Dayanand said that the motorists have to face inconvenience because of server breakdown.

He said that one educational institution would have more than 30 to 40 vehicles and it would not be possible to send all the OTPs to one single mobile number since the department had fixed a cap of five transactions per single mobile number.
“Who is responsible for the wastage of time and who would pay for the re-booking of slot for no fault of the motorist,” questioned Dayanand, while speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday.

Auto Union JAC leader A Sathi Reddy said that the auto drivers don’t know how to use the phones and by the time they recollect the number, the time gets elapsed resulting in rejection of the transactions. He wanted the department to exempt such vehicles from the OTP system.
