New Delhi: The Chief Justice’s Bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra and consisting of Justice Chandrachud, on Monday pulled up the Telangana state government for failing to keep its word on teacher recruitments and ordered the Secretary of the Education Department to appear before it without fail. It adjourned the case to October 28.

Hearing into the petition against closure of schools and non-recruitment of teachers, the Bench reminded the state government that it had promised to complete the process of recruitments by September 5 and yet had not done it.

The state government submitted to the court that the process of recruitment had already begun but the delay was due to the creation of new districts in the state.

Otherwise, it would have kept its word given to the apex court, it argued.

But the Bench did not agree to the suggestion that the delay was attributable to the district reorganisation and said it was not ready to believe in such excuses.

There are 16,000 vacancies in Telangana and AP has got 26,000 vacancies. Aspirant teachers had petitioned the apex court against the delay.
