Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Saturday wrote a letter to Union Minister for Panchayat Raj Narendra Singh Tomar seeking Rs. 1,000 crore for implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (NREGS) in Telangana State.

Hyderabad : Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Saturday wrote a letter to Union Minister for Panchayat Raj Narendra Singh Tomar seeking Rs. 1,000 crore for implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (NREGS) in Telangana State.

In his letter, Jupally informed that the NREGS was being implemented in 8517 village across 438 mandals in 30 districts of Telangana. He said employment was being provided to lakhs of workers by assigning the works like construction of individual toilets, road repairs and construction of Anganwadi and Gram Panchayat buildings.

He said in the current year, employment was provided to 30.40 lakh workers. While Rs. 250 crore were spent towards wages, Rs. 135 crore were used to procure material. He urged the Centre to release these funds on immediate basis besides clearing the previous arrears.
