Hyderabad: After completing phase I dredging works at Puttamgandi in the Krishna River basin, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) would soon embark on phase II works to ensure drinking water needs for next year. The phase II dredging works aims at bringing 10 thousand million cubic ft (TMC) to the city. The Water Board has been successful in bringing 6 TMC ft of water from Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir which will be sufficient till December.

According to Water Board official, the half kilometre dredging works at Puttamgandi will ensure 10 TMC ft which serves drinking water needs of denizens for next summer.

"The phase II of dredging works will potentially serve the drinking water supply needs of the city for the next year," says B Vijay Kumar Reddy, Director (Revenue). He said as the water levels in Krishna River at Puttamgandi has fallen further low, the phase II of dredging works include clearing the rocks at the bed to allow pumping. Work for sub-bottom testing has already begun,” he said.
