The board meeting is obligated to be held twice in a year under the supervision of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is the chairman of HMDA.

The HMDA board meeting which is proposed to be conducted twice in a year was held in the month of March last year under the guidance of the Chief Minister. The chairman of HMDA had not convened any board meeting since March 2016, due to which many policy decisions are delayed.

According to HMDA Act 2008, the Metropolitan Development Authority board shall consist of Chief Minister as chairman of HMDA, Minister of Municipal Administration as vice-chairman, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor, Chief Secretary of government, principal secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development department, principal secretary of Revenue, principal secretary of Industries & Commerce department, principal secretary of Transport, Roads and Building department, principal secretary of Finance department, principal secretary of environment and forest department, principal secretary of Panchayati Raj and principal secretary of Home department.

The board would also consist of a representative of Metropolitan planning committee, Vice chairman of Transmission Corporation, Vice chairman of Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, Vice-chairman of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, GHMC Commissioner, four members of the State legislative assembly representing Hyderabad Metropolitan Region, four elected members amongst the person representing local authorities, general manager of South Central Railway, Chief general manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited and Metropolitan Commissioner.

According to the sources in HMDA, the board meeting is proposed to be conducted every six months. He said the advantage of the board meeting is that if there are any issues then all the departments could resolve the problem during the meeting under the supervision of the Chief Minister.

A senior official in HMDA said the board meeting is to be held twice in a year and the last HMDA board meeting was held under the supervision of the Chief Minister in March 2016, due to which some of the policy decisions are delayed. He said the review meetings are conducted at regularly intervals with the Vice-chairman of HMDA.
