The BangiyaSanskritikSangha is all set to celebrate its 52nd Durga Pooja at Keyes High School grounds. The BangiyaSanskritik Sangha is a Bengali committee which comprises of around 1600 life members and 1200 ordinary members (Both Bengali and Non- Bengali). Subrata Ganguly, the general secretary told The Hans India, ``Every year, we celebrate Durgra Pooja and the people here participate with much enthusiasm and vigour.” He further adds, ``The pooja starts from ‘Dvitiya’ (Second day) of Navratriand on ‘Sashti’(Sixth day) of Navratri,the Governor of the Satate ESL Narasimhanwould participate in the pooja. From ‘Sashti’ pooja continues for next five days till ‘Vijay Dashmi’ (Tenth day of Navratri).”
Every year, large number of devotees participate. They come to have a glimpse of the goddess and pray and get blessed. `Saptami, Ashtami and Navami’ (Seventh, Eighth and Ninth days) are considered as the most auspicious days of the pooja. On these days, delicious ‘Bhog’ (Prasadam) is cooked and distributed to more than 1,00,000 devotees.
After pooja everyday, a rich cultural show is organised by the people from Bombay and Kolkata. Not only this, there are several food stalls put up in the campus, so, that people who visit here can have the royalty to taste the flavors across India. Apart from this, several commercial companies also put up their stalls and exhibit their products.
On the eve of ‘Ashtami’ (Eighth day of Navratri) ‘Pushpanjali’ is performed where more than 30,000 devotees take part. Special pooja is performed to the goddess with different types of flowers, this essentially signifies that fragrance of love and harmony should spread in the lives of all.
On ‘Navami’ ‘Lori’ (Camp fire) is organised where people come and move around the fire singing merrily. Later in the evening ‘Dandiya’ show is organised, where more than 10,000 people participate. And on the last day of ‘Dashmi’ ‘Sindur Utsav’ is organised where married women participate play with ‘Sindur’ among themselves which essentially signifies the bond between the people would grow stronger with the passage of time. This is followed by the ‘Visranjan’ programme of the idol. This year the theme of the pandal is based on a Rajasthani temple.
