Hyderabad: Bharat Yatra which has been launched by Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi proposes to gather hundred million youth to be the spokesperson against the child abuse, because it is they who can understand the pulse of the society better and can bring about a constructive change by reaching out to the masses.
Talking to The Hans India, he said, “the Bharat Yatra has been getting active support from all the politicians throughout the country. We are targeting to make one crore people take pledge for the cause which we are fighting.” Replying to a question he said, “We have many laws concerning child abuse in our country, but when people are caught no stringent action is taken against them, and it gives the scope for child abuse.”
He said during his trip he has been meeting the Chief Justices of States and lawyers and have discussed how to handle the cases relating to child abuse as judiciary is going to play an important role to curb this in our country. “I have also discussed the need for establishing child friendly courts, and fast track courts to deal with child abuse cases with the government. Apart from justice, psychological treatment should also be given to the victims to ensure speedy recovery,” he said.
“The day when our children start feeling safe in a temple, mosque, church and gurudwara, that would be the day when I would say we are relived from this disease and India is safe for children. Bharat Yatra march starts from fear and would end at freedom of children from the shackles abuse.
I believe Social change begins with consciousness, and this is one of the reason why I chose to march on the streets for this cause and I am overwhelmed to see the response. For the first time, the religious leaders have come and have shown interest in joining their hands for this cause,” he said.
