Hyderabad: While the State government has embarked upon regularising land records across the State, Wakf activists from city are demanding streamlining of the records of Wakf properties and lands in and around the city.

Activists allege that many lands and properties were not notified under the revenue records and many are not even properly recorded by the Wakf Board. They have appealed to the government to make sure that all the Wakf properties and lands belonging to the Dargahs, Mosques and other institutions must be protected.

They have decided to take on the Telangana State Wakf Board officials for laxity in taking cognisance of the issue for a long time. President Deccan Wakf Protection Society Osman Al Hajri has said that there are many properties on the outskirts and in city which belong to Wakf and which are under possession of illegal occupants.

He said, “ Masjid e Kalaan (Kulsumpura, Dargha Durvesh Mohiuddin Quadri (8 acre of the total Wakf land already sold), Darya Bagh (Karwan) 8 acre land, Asaar Shareef 21,000 square yard, and on the other places lands are encroached.”

State government is not paying heed to the appeals, representations given by the activists with regard to protection of Wakf lands in city and across the state, he lamented. There are many wakf lands in city which were protected by the High Court but officials are not willing to take the control of these properties, he added.

He said, “Ount Wadi, Triveni Lodge (Kacheguda), Masjid-e- Nana Bagh and others are some of the glaring examples for inaction by the officials.”

It is learnt that there were clear High Court orders to remove Horses and Camels from the Ount Wadi graveyard of the Karwaan way back in 2013, but no action has been taken so far.

Former MP Aziz Pasha said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao promised to give Judicial powers to the Wakf Board after coming to power; but this matter is still pending. He said, “We demand the officials concerned to include the details of Wakf Properties/lands in column number 13 of the Pahani during the regularisation procedure but not in the name of occupants now.

There are about 58,000 acres of land that belong to Wakf across the State.” Lack of staff at the Wakf Board is also playing a spoil sports since the little staff cannot look after the issue carefully and hence there is an immediate requirement of recruiting the staff, he added.

Many organisations like Insaaf, Jamiatul Ulema and others have also announced to support the struggle of rationalising Wakf lands records in the city and across Telangana. The activists and social groups have decided to meet CM and Chief Secretary on this issue very soon.
