Hyderabad: The Telangana Joint Action Committee (T JAC) and opposition parties have decided to take up protests at the Gram Panchayat offices in the State on October 3, demanding withdrawal of GO 39. The T JAC calling it unconstitutional.

The opposition parties and JAC leaders held a meeting at the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FTAPCI) Bhavan here Monday.

Addressing the meeting, the JAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram said the GO 39 issued by the government was unconstitutional and would spark disturbances in village.

Kodandaram said that Gram Panchayats were formed as per the Constitution and, the powers and duties of the elected representatives are clearly defined in the eleventh schedule. The government is trying to impose its will on system. The GO was against the spirit of Constitution and it would bring back the landlord system in the State, he said.

The JAC leader said that the cleansing of the land records was done during the Nizam’s rule, but people protested even then because they were not made part of the process. The coordination committees would create more problems, he added.

The JAC chief urged the coordination committee members to ensure that information of the decision to stage protests reach villages.

He called upon the people to take up protest in whatever manner they liked. TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy questioned right of the farmers’ committees to interfere in the land litigations. The committees would take away the powers of local bodies, he alleged.

He demanded that the government provide financial assistance of Rs 4,000 an acre even to the tenant farmers. TDP leader Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy said the government was trying to divert the attention of people by announcing schemes, one after another.

BJP farmers' cell leader G Madhusudhan said the party would support the protest call given by JAC.
