Hyderabad: Principal Secretary of Agriculture C Partha Sarathi on Tuesday urged the farmers and representatives of the seed manufacturers to acquaint themselves with the quality standards prescribed in seed certification and contribute to the production of the seeds by adopting international standards.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Telangana State Seed and Organic Certification Authority and the Andhra Pradesh State Seed Certification Agency at Kurnool, Partha Sarathi said there was ample scope for export of high quality seeds from Telangana State and Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh.

He further said the land pattern use was suitable for the development and storing of seeds. The land in the Telugu states located 30 degrees east and south of the equator is most suitable for the development and storage of seeds, he said.

He said, “At present only multinational companies are operating in the seed development industrial sector. There is a need to encourage small and medium scale industries in the sector.”

In a bid to create awareness on the seed development, certification, feasibility for exports and other issues the first meeting was held in Kurnool and similar meetings would the organised in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, he added.

The meeting has been attended by 500 representatives of farmers and different seeds manufacturing companies. AP Seeds MD Director Balakrishna, Seed Certification Authority Director K Kesavulu, Corporate Seeds Association President A S Naidu, SNE Regional Manager Sudhark and others participated.
