Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the police were trying to shield the main accused in the murder case of Congress worker Vemuri Srinivasu alias Vasu, mandal Youth Congress leader of Annapureddypally, who was brutally killed allegedly by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders in Yerragunta of Khammam on September 15.

In a press note issued here on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said the police were yet to arrest the main accused Bionapalli Sudhakar, TRS mandal president and DCCB vice chairman. They said the slow pace of investigation and lack of action against the accused in Vasu murder case clearly showed that they were being shielded due to their association with the ruling party.

They said that the TRS should have suspended all four accused from the party. However, instead of directing the police to take stern action against those involved in the murder case, the TRS leadership was supporting them.

Further, Uttam Kumar Reddy also alleged that Sub-Inspector Naresh was helping the accused persons. He said the Congress would soon meet Director General of Police Anurag Sharma seeking action against the accused persons and the SI.

He also condemned the attack on Municipal Commissioner M Ravi Babu by TRS leaders and workers. He said Ravi Babu belonged to Madiga community of Scheduled Castes and therefore, the attack on him was an attack on Dalit community.

He said on one side Minister K T Rama Rao exhorted people to report any misdoings by TRS workers, but on the other, he prevented the police from registering cases against the TRS workers who attacked a Dalit officer who honestly tried to perform his duties by removing illegal flexies of ruling party pertaining to Singareni election campaign.

He alleged that the TRS workers attacked the Commissioner and his family at his residence and abused him in the name of his community. He demanded that stern action be taken against the accused persons to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
