Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department had predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in next 24 hours and there are about 600 dilapidated structures which are posing grave danger to the citizens. The civic body had recently conducted a comprehensive survey and identified about 2,500 dilapidated structures across the city.
According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) official, the civic body prior to the monsoon had identified about 2,500 dilapidated structures and demolished about 1,600 structures. However, the GHMC officials are yet to demolish 900 dilapidated structures of which 600 structures are mostly commercial complexes which are in critical conditions. Out of the 600 structures, 23 are historical markets.
According to the data collected from GHMC, the civic body would demolish Fareed market (constructed in 1965), Maisaram market (constructed in 1971), Malakpet market (constructed in 1972), Begum Bazar market (constructed in 1971), Mangalhat market (constructed in 1969), Mahaboob chowk market (constructed in 1972), Mozamjahi market (constructed in 1972), Azad market (constructed in 1978), Kanda Swamy market (constructed in 1971) and Bus Depot Mulgies (constructed in 1980) in the south zone.
Koti Subway (constructed in 1980), Putli Bowli Old Stalls (constructed in 1980), Chikkadpally market (constructed in 1979), Lingampally market (constructed in 1972), Panjagutta market (constructed in 1966) and Ameerpet market (constructed in 1966) in the central zone. Hissam Gunj Monda market (constructed in 1954), Ramgopalpet market (constructed in 1954), Old Jail market (constructed in 1954), New Bhoiguda market (constructed in 1954), SPG Church market (constructed in 1954), Amar Medical Hall (constructed in 1954) and Sajjan Lal Street Market (constructed in 1954) in the north zone. The GHMC did not identify any market in dilapidated condition in the west zone.
When queried about the same, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said most of the existing commercial complexes which are in dilapidated condition got stay orders from the courts. However, the civic body will send text messages to all the owners who have been running businesses or are residing in dilapidated buildings asking them to vacate them, he added.
