Hyderabad: A day after the season’s heaviest rain inundated many parts of city, civic authorities are sweating it out to clear the debris, drain and remove water from the cellars in many parts of city on Tuesday. Low lying areas across the city were ravaged by heavy rains. While the rain water which got stagnated in cellars was one of the major issues, the roads continued to be flooded due to leaking manholes and water being pumped out from the basements of buildings.

While the water from most of the water logging points receded by Tuesday morning, people in many areas suffered with the stagnated rain water even by the evening. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) vehicles were seen busy in clearing the cellars in different colonies.

Interestingly, many areas on the second day also appeared to be completely drenched thanks to the clearing drive taken up by the civic authorities and leaking manholes.

Many areas have witnessed heaps of silt and debris stocked on the roads that were washed away from different sides. Many areas in Mehdipatnam, Habeebnagar Nala, Bhoiguda Kaman and Goshamahal were inundated due to rains and operations were on to clear the water logged in various localities.

However, due to the release of water on the streets, they got overflooded following the clearing operations. A GHMC employee working on pumping out operation said that there was no other way out except pumping out the water on the streets. He said that they cannot carry the pumping operations from everywhere and priority would be to ease the households first.
