Secunderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and local authorities have been turning a blind eye towards the commuters passing through Safilguda Railway Gate as they have to wait for more than two hours to cross the railway track. However, the roads in Safilguda have made the situation from bad to worse as most of the roads have been dug up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

There are more than 250 colonies using the Safilguda Railway Track which is the only route for the commuters connecting to Secunderabad and other parts of the city. In order to ease the traffic in Safilguda, Malkajgiri and other surrounding areas, the authorities have taken up construction of railway underbridge, but it has been more than two years and yet the construction of the underbridge is not completed.

A resident of Safilguda, S Kalyan said for the past eight to 10 years, high traffic jam has been observed in this area during peak hours. He said in order to ease traffic, the residents demanded a flyover across the railway track but the proposal was cancelled as some part of the area is under defence.

A shop owner, Rafeeq, said from 7 am to 11 am and 6 pm to 9 pm, there was high traffic as the railway gate at the crossing is closed. He said for the past two years, the authorities have been constructing an underbridge but has not been completed till date.

When asked about the same subject, Local MLA Kanaka Reddy said there was a proposal to construct a flyover but it had been cancelled as other side of the area was under Defence and the Defence laws were different.
