Tattered road takes toll on TSRTC buses

Hyderabad: Bad road at several stretches is causing extensive damage to Mumbai-bound Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses.

It has led to the TSRTC management deciding to write to the officials National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to complete laying of road stretching for over 200 km.

A senior official said the Mumbai-bound buses have been taking a lot of wear and tear “It has been a regular phenomenon that the drivers complain about damage to buses and when we inquire they say that the roads are bad to a larger extent,” said the official.

The road till Sadashivpet is good to some extent and after Zaheerabad the road is bad. It is good at some stretches after Humnabad in Karnataka, but tattered beyond Maharashtra-Karnataka border and at areas like Umerga, Naldurg, the official said.

The official said the roads on the Mumbai Highway towards Shirdi, Sholapur, Osmanabad, Tuljapur and Pandharpur are in tatters. The condition of road is so pathetic that they are pockmarked with potholes.

The poor condition of roads is causing loss to the TSRTC. Fuel-efficiency has also declined because drivers are forced change gears frequently on bad roads.

The official said that the corporation is operating 22 services, including four air-conditioned services on the route.
The number of bus services has gradually declined in the area compared to the previous years, said sources.
