Hyderabad: As part of its crackdown on websites with morphed images of celebrities, the Crime Investigation Department's (CID) Cyber Crime Wing on Sunday arrested Dasari Pradeep and his associates in Benguluru who were indulging in publishing of obscene and defamatory photographs of lead actresses in their websites.
The CID team which began investigation, following complaint recently made by the Movie Artists Association (MAA) on Sunday arrested Dasari Pradeep in Bengaluru, believed to be the key player in this racket.
He and his associates were operating 30 such websites by morphing the pictures of the leading actresses and portraying as originals. These misleading pictures also carried gossip packaged as news to targeted readers in South India. The investigation agency began identifying such websites and filed a case under Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act. There was no clarity about the exact content of the websites, which were enlisted by the complainants.
They also stated that morphed images of actresses were being uploaded online and widely circulated, in a bid to defame them.
