Hyderabad: Police personnel were deployed at the house of writer Kancha Ilaiah in Tarnaka here on Sunday after members of Arya Vysya Sangham called for a protest before his house for his remarks against the Vysya community in a recently released book “Samajika Smuglarlu Komatollu”.

According to Osmania University Inspector, V Ashok Reddy, a team of police personnel were deployed as the call from agitators could lead to law and order problem. Preventive measures were initiated at Ilaiah’s house in Tarnaka, he said. Meanwhile, a senior officer said a few members, led by Srinivas Gupta belonging to the sangham, were detained and were taken into preventive custody by the city police.

“Nearly 14 persons including AVS leader Srinivas Gupta were detained,” a senior officer said. The members were detained under Section 151 of Criminal Procedure Code. Speaking to the media, Srinivas Gupta said that they wanted to have a debate with Ilaiah on the contents of the book and they never intended to create any law and order problem.

Reacting to the protests, Ilaiah alleged that the BJP National President Amit Shah was behind these protests. He said it was the constitutional right of intellectuals to write books on various issues. He said he would not talk to minions but was ready for a debate with Amit Shah if he was ready to organise one at JNU in New Delhi. He said if someone was opposed to contents they can file cases.
