Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has given an undertaking to the High Court in Hyderabad that it will ensure that a Grama sabha meeting will be conducted at Vemulaghat village of Thogutta mandal, Medak district as per the provisions of the 2013 Land Acquisition Act before proceeding further with the acquisition process.

Telangana Advocate General D Prakash Reddy gave an undertaking to this effect during the hearing of a petition filed by G Thirupathi and 29 other farmers of the village complaining that the government was acquiring their lands for Mallannasagar Project without following due process. The judge recorded the undertaking given by the AG and posted the case to 25th October for next hearing, by which time the Grama sabha would be held.

The petitioners wanted the relevant material regarding the project to be given to them in Telugu language.

They cited the G O that mandates that all the rules shall be made available in Telugu also. The judge however remarked that the issue of Grama sabha is important. The Advocate General stated that efforts are being made to stall the ongoing projects on technicalities and requested the court not to entertain such petitions for stay of further proceedings.
