Hyderabad: The Nampally police on Monday registered a criminal case against TRS MLC Farooq Hussain for using objectionable language and threatening the landlady and brandishing footwear. The video of the incident, which was recorded by complainant's brother, went viral on social media.

Upset over this, Amtul Wasay, a US citizen, filed a case in the Nampally police station. The 50-year-old Amtul said she had asked the MLC to vacate the flat in Lakdikapul, which was leased out to him about 6 years back. On Monday, she personally went to the flat and asked him to vacate the flat immediately.

She said Farooq Hussain was not willing to do so. He also threatened the woman to put her behind the bars for threatening him, she said. An argument broke-out between the two and the MLC had allegedly used objectionable language and brandished his footwear at her.

The entire episode was recorded by the woman’s brother, Mujtaba Alvi, in the mobile. Later, the woman along with her brother approached the Nampally police station and submitted the video footage to the police.

Speaking outside the police station to the media, she alleged that Farooq Hussain had not been paying rent for the past six-months.

Amtul said she had come to the city all the way from the US to take back the possession of her flat as the MLC had failed to pay heed to her requests to vacate the flat for the past 2 years. “Each time I ask him to vacate, he is dillydallying by saying that he would vacate in next 6 months and during the recent months, he started threatening that he was a leader and cannot be forced to do so,” she said.

Based on the complaint, the Nampally police registered a case against MLC under 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

When asked about it, Farooq Hussain denied that he had misbehaved with the woman. He claimed that the woman had barged into the house and started abusing him and demanded to vacate the house immediately. “I made a contract with one Mohammed Samad and he is the one dealing with the rental issues,” he said.

However, for some time now, one Iqbal Khan claiming to be the in-charge started collecting rent regularly. “I am not the person who resorts to encroachments. If it were so, why would I stay in a rented flat,” he added.
