Hyderabad: The Telangana Lorry Owners Association (TLOA) observed bandh in the State on Monday following the call given by the All India Motor Transport Congress, the parent body of the truckers, to observe bandh for two days.

The truckers did not accept any bookings on Monday and they will not take any bookings even on Tuesday. Telangana Lorry Owners Association President N Bhaskar Reddy said that during the two days, there would not be any movement of trucks or load bookings. `It is like a pen down strike but it would not affect the supply of essential commodities,’ he said.

The truckers have been demanding the Union government to bring diesel under the purview of GST. The other demands include removal of change in diesel prices on daily basis; there should be single tax system as promised by the government. “Taxes are imposed more than two times for the same commodity.

When GST is implemented, there should not be another tax. GST was brought with a slogan of ‘One nation one tax’,” said Bhaskar Reddy. He said that the harassment and corruption by the police and transport officials have been increased on the truck drivers in recent times.

The lorry drivers are harassed even though they have all the valid documents and the problem is aggravated at the state borders, he said. He demanded the government to take steps in this regard.
