Hyderabad: The theme of the prestigious 105th Indian Science Congress (ISC) to be held at Osmania University from January 3 to 7 would be ‘Reach the Unreached through Science and Technology.’

The Science Congress, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will focus on taking the benefits of innovations in science and technology to the common people. The Congress will focus on translational science for promoting affordable sustainable innovation. During the four-day event, thrust will be given on various science disciplines, which have reached the society.

According to university sources, about 3,500 papers have been received for 14 sections including Agriculture and Forestry, Animal, Veterinary and Fishery, Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences, Earth System, Environmental Sciences, Plant Sciences and Material Sciences, among others. The team of the Science Congress Association recently visited the Osmania University to take stock of the arrangements.

Indo-US, Indo-German, Indo-Swiss, Indo-Israel and Indo-Australia agreements on promoting bilateral programmes on science and technology will be showcased in the ISC. The ISC will see showcasing of activities like technology start-up conclave and national innovation foundation for grassroots innovation, rural tech Innovation and others.

As many as 20 Nobel laureates in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology, Medicine, Peace and Economics across the globe have been invited to the Science Congress and about eight have confirmed their participation.

It would see participation of all science and engineering academies of India, Union Ministers promoting science and technology giants like DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, ICAR, MSME, AICTE, UGC, Ministry of Earth Sciences and others, and national Science Academies of the USA, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, South Korea, Australia and Japan.

The event will be attended by close to 20,000 delegates from India and abroad. Apart from the main event, Women Science Congress, Children’s Science Congress, and Scientific Communicator’s Meet have also been scheduled as part of the proceedings.

The organisers are likely to invite Union Ministers — Nirmala Seetharaman (Defence) and Sushma Swaraj (External Affairs) — and MP K Kavitha for the Women Science Congress.

This edition will have a scientific exhibition and a Children’s Science Congress as the main attraction and research institutes from across the country will display scientific models during the five-day event. School students will also showcase scientific models in two categories — juniors (till class X) and seniors (till class XII).
