Hyderabad: The stage is set to give power round-the-clock to the farm sector all over the State. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would make an announcement in this regard on Thursday.

The power utilities, TS Transco and Genco said they are confident that farm sector could be given 24-hour power as the generation and transmission arrangements are in place and all the issues involved in this endeavour have been resolved. The power utilities have spent about Rs 12,000 crores to achieve the objective.

As a part of the government’s efforts to give power round-the-clock to agriculture, the Chief Minister will formally inaugurate 400 kv substation established with a cost of Rs 1600 crore on the outskirts of Chivvemla in Suryapet district.

On Wednesday, the CM spoke to TS Genco, Transco CMD D Prabhakar Rao about the power generation, distribution and supply. Prabhakar Rao explained the efforts made by the electricity organisations to supply 24-hour power to the farm sector at a cost of Rs 12, 610 crore.

From the fifth month of the State’s formation, 24-hour power supply is given to the domestic, commercial and industry sectors. In tune with the instructions given by the CM, nine-hour uninterrupted power supply is given to the farm sector during the day time.

The CM has instructed last year itself that the electricity organisations should make arrangements for 24-hour power supply to the farmers. TS Genco, Transco, SPDCL, NPDCL have made coordinated efforts to make the orders a reality. In-depth study has been conducted on 24-hour power supply to the farm sector of the State.
