Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to minimise the usage of plastic bags below 50 microns and create awareness among the business establishments, hoteliers andmeat shop owners not to entertain plastic bags at any cost.

In order to bring down usage of plastic bags from November 1, the GHMC officials will inspect all business establishments and impose heavy penalty to those who are not following the prescribed rules. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy appealed the business establishments to fix up some prize money to encourage their customers to avoid the usage of plastic bags.

He also requested all shop owners to be a part of the Swachh Survekshan and also to be anambassador to Swachh Sena workers joining hands with the GHMC to secure good rank in the coming Swachh Survekshan in 2018.

On Wednesday, an orientation programme for Swachh Survekshan-2018 was conducted at the Cyber Convention Hall with all hoteliers, function hall owners, hostel managements, meat vendors and other business establishment owners to create awareness about the ill effect of plastic bags, good sanitation practices, procurement of stamped meat from the GHMC slaughterhouses and explained various advantages of decentralised waste management and also to take up the responsibility in making the city pollution free.
