Hyderabad: The recent rains have inflicted damage on 789-kilometre length of roads and formed 1,846 patches across the city. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to take up the road repairs at an estimated cost of Rs 77.77 crore.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy held an emergency review meeting with engineering officials and instructed them to take up the road repairs works on war-footing. He said the damage to roads was estimated to be Rs 24.41 crore in monetary terms in the central zone. He instructed officials to fill the potholes and patches on priority and lay roads after the rains subsided. The Commissioner said the civic body has already filled 890 potholes and 400 patches at different location in the city.

The patchworks have caused severe traffic congestion at several locations in the city. Stretches from LB Nagar to Uppal, Secunderabad to Begumpet and Panjagutta to Banjara Hills were jam-packed and motorists were caught up in traffic snarls for at least an hour.
