Non-utilisation of funds and no progress of development works by Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) irked the IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao

Hanamkonda: Non-utilisation of funds and no progress of development works by Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) irked the IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao.
The Minister directed the Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, District Collector and local MLAs to hold regular meetings to review the progress of works and execute works on priority basis.

He reviewed the progress of development activities under GWMC at District Collectorate in Hanamkonda on Saturday.
Stating that progress of works is not satisfactory in the city, Rama Rao expressed serious displeasure over the failure of the corporation in taking up works and completing them in time even with the availability of sufficient funds.
The State government had accorded administrative sanctions for works worth Rs 283 crore, of the special grants of Rs 300 crore for the period 2016-17. But, tenders are not called and agreements are not signed and only Rs 50 crore was spent so far.
“This kind of laxity is intolerable.

The officials and elected members have to work together. Efforts needed to be made to identity works and obtain administrative sanctions to utilise Rs 300 crore allocated this year,” the Minister said.
Besides, Rs 300 crore annual grants from the State government, huge amounts of funds were being provided to the corporation towards development of the city under Smart City, AMRUT and other schemes.

In all Rs 2,960 crore funds are available and the funds have to be utilised effectively.
During his visit to the District, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had made several promises towards city development. The officials should prepare detailed project reports regarding all pending works including the development works proposed by the Chief Minister, Minister said.
He expressed unhappiness over grounding of works of 1600 2BHK houses though the Chief Minister promised to construct 4000 houses for the poor.
He told officials to attend a special meeting to be held in Hyderabad on Oct 24 with complete information of development works.
