ABVP holds protest against students' suicides

Hyderabad : Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday held protests across the Telangana State against the suicides by students of corporate colleges.

ABVP activists held Rasta Roko protest before two leading corporate colleges at Kukatpally. They alleged that several corporate colleges have turned into suicide points where students are being subjected to intense mental pressure for good marks and ranks. They demanded that closure of two prominent colleges as most of the students who committed suicide belonged to these institutions. They alleged that the institutions were collecting crores of rupees from parents while promising better ranks for their children. Consequently, they are subjecting students to immense pressure for studies which forced some students to suicide. They condemned inaction against the managements of these colleges for abetting students to suicide.

The ABVP activists were later taken into custody by the police.

Similar protests were held at different colleges in the State also at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
