WORLD ARTHRITIS DAY

Mahbubnagar: Celebrating the World Arthritis Day, at SVS Medical College in Mahbubnagar on Sunday, healthcare experts observed that more than 7 crore population in India was suffering from acute arthritis (joint pain) disease.

However, if proper awareness was created and regular screening was done in the initial stages, this disease could be prevented. “Majority population in rural areas are more prone to arthritis due to their laborious lifestyle.

Moreover, most of them ignore joint pains in the initial stages and suffer acutely in the later stages. Keeping this in view, particularly for the people of Mahbubnagar district, we at SVS Medical College are providing free screening test and providing treatment free of cost,” said Dr KJ Reddy, Managing Director and World Renowned Senior Joint Replacement Arthroscopic Surgeon at SVS Medical College. District Collector of

Mahbubnagar Ronald Rose, took part in the programme as a Chief Guest and appreciated the good work being done by the management of SVS Medical College and Hospital. “It is a pride for the district to have such a medical college with all the facilities. I congratulate the hospital management for the good work.

Particularly, awareness about healthcare among the poor in the rural areas is very less. For this, there is a need of conducting more medical camps and awareness programmes in the rural areas and create awareness among the poor that advanced and affordable treatment facilities are available right at their own place,” said the Collector.

Health experts terming the Arthritis disease as lifestyle disease, felt that it could be prevented if proper care was taken right from the beginning. However, even for those who are suffering from acute joint pains, the hospital was providing world class knee replacement surgery at affordable costs.

“We have been supported by Johnson and Johnson company as they are providing the artificial medical equipments like knee implants and other supporting medical devices at very low cost. Not all who are suffering from arthritis require surgery; more than 90 per cent cases can be cured by counselling and lifestyle management techniques. Only the rest need surgery,” said Dr Reddy.
