Issue passbooks to farmers: Congress MLC to govt

Hyderabad: Alleging that the officials were not giving passbooks to farmers citing land records purification programme as reason, Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said farmers were facing hardships as they had no passbooks.

Speaking to the media at Assembly Media Hall on Sunday, Ponguleti asked tehsildars to issue certificates to farmers after examining records with old passbooks or new ones. Farmers were facing hardships in selling their lands as they had no passbooks, he said adding that the officials were keeping issue of pass books pending. He asked the officials concerned to concentrate on the issue.

Alleging that seed companies were distributing spurious seeds, Ponguleti said farmers found that Nagarjuna Seeds Kn-10650, 633 and 634 were spurious. Scientists were examining the seed, he said, and demanded that the government order an inquiry into selling of spurious seeds.

He asked the State government to purchase wet grains as rains were lashing continuously. He demanded that the State government monitor cotton sales and not consider wet percentage in the grains while purchasing them.

He asked the State government to bring a Seeds Act before coming to Legislative Council session, and demanded that the State government order an inquiry into the incidents involving women Collectors.
