Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has accused the opposition parties of misleading people on the issue of pending irrigaiton projects of Mahabubnagar district.

Speaking to media persons in Mahabubnagar on Sunday, Harish Rao said though many irrigation projects were started during the Congress and TDP regimes, they were never completed. He said previous governments showed no interest in completing those projects for several years.

Citing an instance, the minister said it took over 20 years to begin the works on Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Projects. He said the DPR of KLIP was changed thrice and estimates of project cost were revised multiple times. Till 2003, only 50% works were completed. He dismissed the claims of Congress leaders that 90% works were completed by previous government. He said it was only TRS Government which completed the works on war footing basis. Similar is the status of other projects in Mahabubnagar district, he said.

Harish Rao said previous Congress and TDP regimes treated the other irrigation projects in Telangana in a similar way and works were confined to laying of foundation stone. He said TRS Government has been completing those pending projects one after the other. He said the capacity of KLIS was increased from 25 TMC to 40 TMC. Similarly, the State Government has spent over Rs. 1200 crore on irrigation projects for Telangana State.

He advised the opposition parties to mend their ways. Else, he said people would teach them a fitting lesson soon.
