Hyderabad: None other than the Governor E S L Narasimhan pointed out the anomaly when he had gone to one of the RTA offices in the city some days go. He was surprised by non-inclusion of the applicant’s blood group in the application form and he suggested the officials to include the blood group. On his suggestion, the officials made it mandatory to mention the blood group in the application. Just after a few months, the issue was ignored.

An applicant B Gyaneswar said that he had applied for renewal of his licence and had filled application by mentioning the blood group. However, there was no blood group mentioned in the new licence issued by Medchal RTA on October 10. Similarly, the new driving licence of M Dayanand issued on October 11 by the RTA-Hyderabad North Zone had no mention about the blood group despite clearly mentioning in the application form.
Call it callousness or sheer apathy, the state of affairs at about a dozen RTA offices in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy are not proper.

“If one were to know the blood group in case of an eventuality, it would not be possible. Dr Phaniharan who has dealt with several fatal accident cases says, “in most of the accident cases, blood group information would help to save the lives.’

As per the Motors Vehicles Act, while filling the application form 1-A, the candidates has to mention his blood group. This was optional until recently and most of the applicants did not bother to mention it. The authorities then affected changes and made it mandatory to mention the blood group in the application based on the suggestion of Governor E S L Narasimhan.

The Joint Transport Commissioner J Pandurang Naik said that the issue was brought to his notice. He said that the applicants should specifically mention about their blood group in the form. He said that the authorities would make sure there are no discrepancies in future.
