For the first time in the history of ACB, 112 trap cases and 36 DA cases have been registered from January 1 to October 13 this year. A secret intelligence wing constituted with sincere officials is concentrating on ferreting out corrupt officials.

During the past two years, people from rural areas across the state are also coming forward to check corruption among government officials at various levels by complaining to ACB even if the official or employee demands only Rs 3,000 A large number of employees have been trapped in various departments, including municipal administration, engineering, endowments, revenue and transport owing to the enthusiasm and determination of rural folk in the last few years.

“Yes, we are also surprised at the number of bribe demand cases from the rural areas. Vexed with the demands for money by government employees, even the illiterates are coming forward to lodge complaints with us. A majority of the trap cases are being registered in rural and semi-urban areas only.

Meanwhile, some of the young officials are also informing about the huge assets of the senior officials and our wing is chasing them. In the past three years, 535 officials/employees have been caught red-handed, most of them from the rural areas. Not only trapping the errant officials, out director general always stresses the need for all wings to increase conviction rates and recovery of the trapped money,” a senior official of ACB-DG office told The Hans India.

Earlier, the money offered as bribe used to be not recovered even after two and more years. However, the ACB is now looking at the issue and ensuring return it to the complainant within 60 days. The conviction rate has also increased in the ACB courts. In the present calendar year, 32 per cent of conviction rate has been registered.

“Engineer-in-Chief of municipal administration and urban development Pamu Ranga Rao and director Urban Planning and Country Planning GV Raghu and several other officials were caught in DA cases. According to the market value, the ACB found over Rs 2,000 crore worth assets from these two officials,” the ACB official said.
