Hanamkonda hospital fire claims two lives
The patients, their attendants and staff at Rohini Super Specialty Hospital in Hanamkonda on Monday had a nightmarish experience following a fire accident triggered by electric short-circuit at the hospital. The incident has left two dead, four injured and few others in critical condition.

The incident has left two dead, four injured and few others in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as J Kumaraswamy (50) of Chityal and Ratnamallu (80) of Bhupalpally. They were said to have died due to suffocation caused by smoke.
When the incident occurred, there were nearly 200 patients in the hospital.The electric short-circuit has caused a leaking oxygen cylinder to explode in operation theatre (OT) complex on the second floor of the hospital leading to fire breakout.
The incident occurred when two persons were being operated at around 5 pm on Monday. The interiors of the OT complex were burnt. Thick clouds of smoke engulfed both the OT complex and intensive care unit adjacent to it. Panicked by the smoke and fire, the doctors and staff left the operation theatre hurriedly carrying a patient undergoing neurosurgery and another one was left in the theatre.
Pandemonium prevailed for some time as the staff and patients’ attendants run helter-skelter. Coming to senses minutes later, the hospital staff and doctors launched evacuation procedure and alerted fire department and police.
Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari, who was in the city, rushed to the hospital along with commissioner of police G Sudheer Babu, Warangal Urban Collector Amrapali Kata and DMHO Dr B Harish Raj. They inspected the OT complex and monitored the rescue operations and enquired about safety of the patients.
