Hyderabad: Congress legislator Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Friday said that he would hold Chalo Assembly programme by the cotton farmers as they have been deprived of support price to their produce.

Venkat Reddy has said he would launch “Chalo Assembly” programme with two lakh farmers on October 27. He appealed to all political parties to give support to the programme.

Komatireddy said cotton crop was destroyed due to heavy rains and the farmers were not getting minimum support price in the market. The farmers were not getting more than Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 per quintal of cotton.

Similarly, the farmers were not getting more than Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,300 per quintal paddy in the market. He asked the farmers not to get demoralised and not to commit suicides.

It may be noted that the cotton farmers have been facing innumerable problems as they could not get any assurances either from the centre or from the State government with regard to remunerative price for their produce.

Responding to a question, Komatireddy said nobody discussed with him about TTDP working president A Revanth Reddy joining the Congress.
