Hyderabad: Communist Party of India (CPI), State unit, on Sunday, advised the State government to strengthen the public distribution system (PDS) on the lines of Kerala State. It urged the government not to scrap the PDS.

In a press statement, CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy found fault with State government for deciding to remove fair price as they threatened to go on strike time and again.

The poor would be affected severely if government implemented its decision. The poor were already hit by apathy of the Central government in making available sugar and kerosene through fair price shops, he said.

It was atrocious on the part of the TRS government as it was following in the footsteps of Central government, he pointed out. He explained that the Left government in Kerala was distributing 13 essential commodities to the people through PDS at low prices.

The TRS government was always stating that it was implementing Communists agenda, he recalled and said Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajender had studied the implementation of PDS in Kerala.
