Hyderabad: The Anganwadi Centre located at Jiyaguda is in a dilapidated condition. It does not have basic facilities like power, water and toilet.

The Anganwadi Centre is running in a government building for the past 40 years and women and children from Ganganagar, Kargilnagar, New Ganganagar and Satyanarayananagar are being benefitted from this centre.

The centre is surrounded by three wine shops and that is causing nuisance to the Anganwadi workers, parents and children. Especially, pregnant women, who come for lunch, are the most affected. Women come from all the four areas as this is nearby to their houses. The Ambedkar Youth Welfare Association Committee is asking the teacher to vacate the centre as it is in decrepit condition.

A local woman, H Anuradha, aged 30, said, “The committee members keep asking to vacate the place but this centre is convenient for me to come every day. As there are no toilets, kids do not have any other option other than open defecation on the premises.

This also leads to mosquito menace and kids are suffering from fever.” K Maheshwari, a pregnant woman from the locality said, “I do not know when the building will collapse and there is no electricity. I hope at least the government will repair this building or construct a new one.”

V Aruna Bai, teacher of the centre said, “For the past 40 years this centre has been here. Many kids and pregnant women are getting benefited from this centre. This covers four areas with a total of 238 houses.

The committee members want to encroach the building and construct a function hall and that’s the reason they are so concerned about us.” She also said that the maid got water from the neighbouring houses.

“Somehow, we are managing, but I request the government to repair the building or construct a new one. There are 30 children, 18 pregnant women and 72 kids from seven months to three years. Monthly once they come and take nutritional food called ‘Balamrutham’.

Hyderabad District Welfare for Women and Children officer G K Sunanda said, “I got to know about the centre. I will personally visit the centre and enquire about the issue and take necessary action.”
