University of Hyderabad (UoH), Vice-Chancellor, Prof Appa Rao Podile has been conferred with the most prestigious fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in recognition to this contribution in the field of Plant Sciences.

Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad (UoH), Vice-Chancellor, Prof Appa Rao Podile has been conferred with the most prestigious fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in recognition to this contribution in the field of Plant Sciences.

According to a communiqué of the university here on Thursday, the INSA had decided in its Annual General Meeting held on October 14, 2017 to accord the prestigious fellowship on Appa Rao.

In a communication to the VC, the INSA president Prof. Ajay Sood appreciated the outstanding contributions of Appa Rao in Plant Sciences in general and plant-microbe interactions in particular.

His recent work on transglycosylation by bacterial chitinases published in journals of high impact and his earlier contributions on the use of chitinolytic bacteria for the control of fungal diseases of plants were recognised by INSA. The INSA citation said “his work on chitinases enabled the development of alternatives to the toxic antifungal compounds for plant protection”.
