The field-level staff has been directed to ensure that they collect Rs 260 crore a month between October and December.

Hyderabad: In view of a proposal to shift the financial year to January from March, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set itself an ambitious target of collecting Rs 800 crore property tax by December. The field-level staff has been directed to ensure that they collect Rs 260 crore a month between October and December.

According to officials, property tax to the tune of Rs 630.92 crore was already collected and this is Rs 60 crore higher compared to that of last year. The officials said the GHMC has setRs 41.36 crore as target for the East Zone, Rs 17.05 crore for South Zone, Rs 97.12 for Central Zone, Rs 43.58 crore for North Zone and Rs 65.40 crore for West Zone for month of October.

A senior official told The Hans Indiathat the field-level staff have already been directed to ensure that at least Rs 260 crore is collected a month. This strategy is designed to shift the financial year to January from March.

The officials said earlier property tax collection used to be Rs 150 crore in February and Rs 200 crore in March. As part of the strategy to meet the target, the GHMC will soon embark on a mission to educate tax evaders.
