Hyderabad: While the opposition parties are gearing up for raising the political heat and corner the government on various issues during the Assembly session beginning from Friday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in a pre-emptive measure announced that the session could be held for 50 days and if need be for more number days.

The opposition party leaders who wanted to raise a hue and cry that the government was adamant in not holding the session for more than a week or ten days and was interested only in fulfilling the constitutional obligation were taken aback by the announcement of the Chief Minister.

The strategy behind offering to hold marathon session appears to be to tire out the opposition, said a Congress leader.

This had set the tone for bidding adieu to the traditional ‘fireworks’ that were usually witnessed between ruling and opposition parties in the earlier BAC meetings.

As the opposition came up with a long list of issues to be discussed, KCR instantly agreed. But he wanted that the opposition should cooperate in ensuring that the question hour and zero hour were conducted without any disruption.

He expressed serious concern over the previous sessions where zero hour and question hour were not allowed to take place. He proposed that 10 questions should be taken up during the question time every day and opportunity should be given to every member to speak on the subject.

Zero hour would also be held without fail allowing every legislator to raise the problems in their respective assembly constituencies, the leader of the house said.

The opposition leaders demanded discussion on 20 issues, including farmers suicides, unemployment and two bedroom houses for the poor. The CM accepted. In fact, he would be making a detailed presentation on these issues in the House.

The Chief Minister asked the Congress leaders to call off the ‘chalo assembly’ programme scheduled for Friday. But Leader of opposition K Jana Reddy turned down the plea.

At this point, the Chief Minister warned the members of strict action if the opposition party created law and order problems on the pretext of agitations and dharnas during the time of assembly session.
