As per the data collected by the Central Pollution Control Board in September 2016, Hyderabad has the worst air quality among the cities in South and West India, after Delhi.

Recording 2.5 Particulate Matter(PM), Hyderabad has the highest number of red days which indicate that the air is harmful to all ages.

The Pollution Control Board (PCB) which maintains the annual average and measure pollution in the air has around 19 manual air quality stations.

Coastal areas such as Vizag suffer from higher levels of pollution as the winds lead to the dispersion of the pollutants with the humidity making the particles heavier.

With Hyderabad having the advantage of being enclosed by land and having no navigable route to the sea, the Board claims that the levels are under control.
