The ‘SHE Teams’ launched on October 24, 2014 in Hyderabad has reduced the crime rate against women in the city by around 20 percent.

The ‘SHE Teams’ launched on October 24, 2014 in Hyderabad has reduced the crime rate against women in the city by around 20 percent.

Aimed to curb sexual harassment and providing security to women in the society, the SHE Teams have been tasked with cracking down on eve-teasers and stalkers.

A single SHE Team comprises of a male or female sub-inspector along with a woman police constable and three other police constables with hidden cameras for video-recording.

Speaking to PTI, Additional Commissioner of Police (crimes and SIT) Swati Lakra said, “Over the past three years, the SHE Teams have caught 1,464 people red-handed and addressed 3,516 cases. Overall the reduction in offences (relating to harassment) against women is around 20 per cent.”

SHE Teams have been put in force in all the districts of Telangana and also is being implemented under different names in six other states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
