Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is keen on taking energy efficient initiatives with regard to street lights, office buildings as well as domestic lighting. The electrical engineers are striving to conserve energy by taking new initiatives.

As a part of energy conservation measures, the GHMC has come out with ‘Centralised Control and Monitoring System’ (CCMS) for streetlights. It is meant to control and monitor efficiency of streetlights in the entire city from a centralised location. In this system, all the streetlights will be controlled and monitored through CCMS boxes by establishing a centralised command centre.

A total of 4.6 lakh streetlights will be linked with 24,862 CCMS units. These boxes are specially designed for street lighting projects to ensure an optimal performance. This will result in drastic reduction of operational and maintenance cost.

It is estimated that maintenance cost will come down by 30 per cent. Any citizen can view the glowing/non-glowing condition of street lights and all electrical parameters through dash board. So far, as many as 2,400 CCMS units have been installed in the city.
