Hyderabad: In view ofincreasing number of accidents on Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials have decided to establish more than 50 trauma centres all along the route. The HMDA will set up trauma centres on Shamirpet and Medchal stretches as there are no hospitals on this route.

The HMDA officials have felt that there is an urgent need to set up trauma centres to reduce the fatalities. The officials have already deployed eight ambulances and speed guns. Apart from it, all existing hospitals too will be upgraded to ensure that they remain open round-the-clock.

A senior official said the proposed trauma centres are intended to provide emergency medical aid to people during accidents. The HMDA officials recently held an interaction with medical experts from Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) in order to provide required facilities on ORR and suggested that they have common emergency call number. The officials also suggested that EMRI introduce double bed ambulance.

Official also said that they hadalready identified more than 50 hospitals on ORR and they would beupgradedthem into trauma centres as most of the hospitals are primary health centres which lacked basic facilities.

Meanwhile, as many as 630 accidents occurred at various spots on the ORR tillSeptember this year. About 53 persons had lost lives this year itself making the ORR a death trap in 49 accidents.
