Jana slams govt for stifling Opposition voice

Hyderabad: The Opposition Congress on Tuesday charged the ruling TRS with creating hurdles for it in raising public issues in the Legislative Assembly.

"We are trying to raise people's problems in a democratic way even by cooperating with the government. But, the way interruptions are caused to this effort, is very painful, very undemocratic," Leader of Opposition in State Legislative Assembly K Jana Reddy said.

Addressing the media, after staging walkout from the House, along with other MLAs, Jana Reddy said the Congress members had faced humiliations to ensure that the problems being faced by the people can be raised on the floor of the Assembly and that they are resolved.

The Opposition was ignored, and the issues raised by the members were not telecast. The Speaker had not taken any action, though the matter was taken to his notice.

“I made it clear in the BAC that if there is any pressing issue, adjournment motions should be taken up.

There is no rule which does not allow adjournment motions. There is no unanimous decision in the BAC as claimed by the government,” said Jana Reddy. Deputy leader of CLP M Bhatti Vikramarka said it was not appropriate to deny mike to the Leader of Opposition. The government had no regard for traditions of the House.

Jana Reddy on Tuesday likened himself to BJP senior leader L K Advani. He said he would not feel bad even if he was denied the Chief Minister’s post.

“LK Advani did not complain when he was denied Prime Minister’s post after the BJP won in 2014.
Jana Reddy said that the leader whoever would ensure victory for the party would be hailed as “Bahubali.” The Leader of the Opposition said the media has not been giving fair amount of coverage to the Opposition.
