Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said there was no question of going back on the decision of constructing new Secretariat building.
Hyderabad : Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said there was no question of going back on the decision of constructing new Secretariat building.
Intervening during a question raised by BJP MLAs during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said Telangana's Secretariat was the worst among the Secretariats buildings of 29 other States. He said the construction of the present Secretariat was not done in a planned manner and it does not even fire safety. He said no municipal permissions were taken for the construction of present complex.
KCR said he was not the first Chief Minister who is trying to have a new Secretariat building. He said Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy wanted the Secretariat to be shifted to Erragadda. Later, Brahmananda Reddy too wanted it to be shifted due to Vasthu defects and other reasons. He said even foreign delegates had expressed their views against the Secretariat building.
The Chief Minister said Secretariat complex should be equipped with all facilities. For the same reason, he said Telangana Government has been trying to get 71 acres of land of Bison Polo Ground to construct new buildings for Secretariat, Assembly, HODs Complex and a cultural bhavan. He said it would cost nearly Rs. 500 crore for the construction of four complexes which includes Rs. 180 crore on Secretariat complex alone.
KCR said Telangana was a rich State and it could afford a new Secretariat building. He said even Prime Minister Narender Modi has congratulated him on the proposed new buildings.
The Chief Minister dismissed the allegations the move would hurt sports activities in the city. He said no sports activities were ever held in Bison Polo Ground. He said there were 19 sports stadiums in the city which have remained unutilised. He said even Gachibowli Stadium was used to conduct the marriage functions of some dignitaries including daughter of then Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya. He claimed that the decision was enjoying the backing of common man and no was opposed it.
BJP MLAs Dr. K. Lakshman, G. Kishan Reddy and Chintala Ramchander Reddy have strongly objected to the proposal and called it a waste of public money. He said new Secretariat building should not be priority when other issues like SC, ST hostels are pending.
In protest, the BJP members staged a walk out from the House.
