The discussion was taken up in the Telangana Legislative Assembly during the Question Hour, where the Minister said that the government would take suggestions from the surrogacy bill introduced in Lok Sabha in 2016.

Expressing their concern over the infertility centers allegedly running illegally in Hyderabad, Congress leaders G Chinna Reddy, J Geeta Reddy and Padmavati Reddy stated that the many poor women are exploited in the process and urged the government to bring in an Act for surrogacy.

Responding to this, Laxma Reddy said that a committee has been appointed headed by a retired judge, Justice Gopal Reddy to make suggestions and recommendations on the matter.
