Visakhapatnam: Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General RP Thakur said that public support and social media tips helped us to catch the corrupt persons in a big way during the ACB raids in the State.Participating as chief guest in sensitisation programme on preventive vigilance measures jointly organised by GITAM School of Law and ACB Visakhapatnam Range at GITAM University on Friday, Thakur said that ACB in Andhra Pradesh was preparing stringent acts like Binami Act to contain corruption in the newly established state.

He mentioned that there was lot of scope to increase corruption with development activities going on in the state. Stating that the ACB was coordinating with Central Vigilance & Enforcement, CBI and Income Tax departments during the raids, the DG said the conviction rate in the ACB cases was 70 per cent, which was very high when compare with CBI.

“We are achieving this with our limited manpower, continuous review of cases and public support. The ACB is equally concentrating on complainant protection particularly after filing cases the department is taking the responsibility of releasing seized amounts, completing the pending works of complainant in the case. The ACB’s aim is to create a corruption-free society for overall development of the state,” Thakur said.

GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan said that one must note that joining in government service means for serving society and people and not for making money. He mentioned that corruption was a big hurdle to development and creating unrest in the society. Deputy Inspector of Police (Vizag Range) Ch Srikanth said corruption is impeding progress of society and the future generation must think about corruption-free society. Deputy Transport Commissioner S Venkateswara Rao briefed about recent changes in RTA department particularly in issuing online licence to avoid middlemen.
