Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K T Rama Rao on Monday declared that construction of flyovers at Amberpet and Balanagar in the twin cities would be completed soon.

Replying to a question in the Council, the MA&UD Minister said the 1.6 km flyover at Amberpet would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 367 crore for which land acquisition process was in progress.

Similarly, the 2.2 km Balanagar flyover would be constructed at a cost of Rs 387 crore, of which the State government would bear Rs 265 crore, he added. “Since the existing road width in Amberpet is 18 metres, we propose to expand it to 30 metres. A total of 281 properties would be acquired for the execution of the project,” he said.

The total extent of the land required is 22,411.42 square yards. The cost of the project would be Rs 436. 71 crore, of which Rs 317 crore would be for land acquisition. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways sanctioned Rs 67 crore. The remaining Rs 250 crore required for the land acquisition would be borne by the State government or the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), he said.

The GHMC and the HMDA would be constructing the Balanagar flyover and it would be 60-feet wide. A total of 365 properties would be acquired for the purpose, the Minister said. While the total extent of land required for the Balanagar flyover would be 64,936.22 square yards, land would be acquired at a cost of Rs 265 crore, and will be borne by the HMDA.

Referring to the roads in Hyderabad, Rama Rao said the State government had allocated Rs 77 crore for the roads that were damaged during the monsoon. It was also decided to spend Rs 121 crore to improve vulnerable road spots to provide better transport facilities to the people, he said.
