The Beggar-free City operation has commenced in Hyderabad following the orders issued by the Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy on Wednesday.

The police personnel began shifting those seeking alms in different places to the recently set up rehabilitation centre at Chanchalguda prison.

The orders came into force after reports suggested that beggars are seeking alms in an indecent manner along with children and disabled people being employed to seek alms at major junctions on roads causing inconvenience for the public.

The Police Commissioner has put the set orders into effect for a period of two months starting from 6 am on November 8 up to 6 am on January 7. Violators would be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and as per the provisions of Hyderabad city police Act, 1348 Fasli, TS preventions of Begging Act, 1977 and J.J. Act 2000.
